Fr. Gordon Kalil

Pastor, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church

Father Gordon, Pastor, ST. John the Baptist Catholic ChurchBorn and raised in Michigan City, Indiana, the eldest of five children— two brothers and two sisters. Two brothers live in Indiana and two sisters in Napa. Both parents are deceased. After quitting work at 39 to “find myself” moved to the Bay Area and returned to the Catholic Church through St. Dominic’s Church in San Francisco where he entered the Dominican Order and was ordained after 7 years of formation in 1994 at St. Dominic’s church in San Francisco. Fr. Gordon left the Dominicans to be incardinated into the Diocese of Santa Rosa. Prior to becoming pastor of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in 2002, he served two years as associate pastor at St. Helena Catholic Church, and three years in Detention Ministry, and in ministries listed below.

Ministries: volunteer chaplain Napa County Jail, Napa County Juvenile Hall, HIV Network of Napa County, Director Detention Ministry of Napa, Inside Out Network;

Organizations and Services: Napa Interfaith Council, Bridge House-Transitional Living founder, Inside Out Network founder, 1999-2002 Advisory Board member Nuestra Esperanza; 1999-2002 Regional Board Member Catholic Charities of Napa; Napa County Non-profit Coalition. Health Care for the Poor Committee/Queen of the Valley Hospital; Board of Trustees Justin Siena High School, President Spirit of Unity in Napa, Inc. (SUN); Diocese of Santa Rosa: Scrip Board member, chairman Deposit and Loan Board, Clergy Personnel Board, The College of Consultors/Presbyteral Council, and Dean of the Napa Deanery.
